Bishop John’s Christmas Message

Monday 25th December 2017

I hope that, wherever you are and in whatever way you choose to celebrate the Feast of the Nativity of Jesus, Christmas will be a happy time for you. Perhaps you will spend it with family or friends, maybe more quietly on your own, or travelling. What is important in our celebration is to remember just what we are celebrating and why. We celebrate God’s love for us.

It is a love that brings God Himself into our lives. In the birth of Jesus we have God among us, to teach us and to show us the way. We celebrate our belief that, as St Paul tells us, “Nothing can separate us from the love of God”. Let’s be sure to value God’s Christmas gift to us and remember what Christmas is all about. When we are secure in the knowledge of God’s love for us then we can be confident that, day by day, we can be guided by all He may be asking of us.

As we welcome the new born Jesus we can ask Him: Stay with us, Lord, on our journey
