English College 650th celebrations | |
Last weekend saw the 650th anniversary of the Foundation Deed which established an English and Welsh Hospice on the site occupied by the Venerable English College.
Its foundation in 1362 makes this the oldest English institution outside of England. From 1362-1579, it was a Hospice for English pilgrims to Rome.
A big year for CAFOD | |

2012 marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of CAFOD by the Bishops of England and Wales. Since its inception back in 1962, the official aid agency of the Catholic Church has brought hope and compassion to poor communities overseas and stood side-by-side with them to end poverty and injustice. The year will therefore be a special year of thanks to all CAFOD’s committed supporters: to the Conference of Bishops for its ongoing support, to CAFOD’s partners overseas, and to all those who enable its vital work to happen.
Here in the Diocese of Salford, CAFOD hopes to visit many parishes to say a huge “thank- you” to as many supporters as possible.
