Fr Joseph Power RIP

It is with deep sadness
that we announce the death of 
Fr Joseph Power

May he rest in peace.

born 10 April 1931
ordained 17 June 1956
died 17 March 2012

Father Joseph Patrick Power died on Saturday 17th March, 2012, at Fairfield Nursing Home, Castletownbere, Co Cork.  Father Power was in his eightieth year, the fifty sixth year of his Sacred Priesthood.  May he rest in peace. 

Joseph was born on 10th April, 1931 and was baptised on 11th April, 1931 in the parish church of Castletownbere, and received the Sacrament of Confirmation on 9th June, 1943. He was educated at Mungret College, Limerick.

Joseph was accepted as an Ecclesiastical student for the Diocese of Salford in June, 1950 and continued his education at Mungret College. In September 1952, Joseph transferred to All Hallows, Dublin. He was ordained to the Sacred Priesthood at All Hallows on 17th June, 1956.

Father Joseph Power served the Diocese in the following appointments:

As Assistant Priest:               

September 1956          St. Joseph’s, Heywood.
March 1957                  St. Wilfrid’s, Hulme.
August 1959                 St. Joseph’s, Heywood.
August 1967                Guardian Angels, Bury.

As Parish Priest:                    

June 1974                    St. Joseph’s Mossley

In September 1999 Fr. Power retired to Ireland.

The mortal remains of Father Power will be received into the Parish Church at Castletownbere, Co. Cork on Sunday 18th March at 6.30pm.  Requiem Mass will be celebrated in the Parish Church on Monday 19th March at 11.00am, followed by burial in St. Finian’s Cemetery, Castletownbere.
