Prayer Relay: June concerts |
Wednesday, 13 June 2012
The Diocesan Department for Evangelisation has been hard at work preparing young people for the Olympic Games with a successful torch relay. The next venture is a series of June concerts, to which all are invited. Fr Paul Cannon writes:
Over the next couple of weeks we have another part of the Relay of Prayer happening and that is a series of concerts. We want to help our young people to appreciate the connections between faith, music, sport and culture. The concerts are one way of doing this. We also wanted to provide the school pupils with an opportunity to sing with a professional opera singer - Sean Ruane. Sean sang at the launch event in September at Thornleigh College, Bolton.
Overall there are about 90 of our diocesan schools taking part – up to 12 schools with about 10-12 pupils forming the choirs at the different concerts (according to which area of the diocese they are in).
The poster and information sheet give all the details of the remaining 7 concerts – and the cost of tickets etc. If you would like to order tickets for any of the concerts please do not hesitate to contact us, and we will ensure that your tickets are available for collection at your chosen venue on the night.
For your information, page 2 of the attachment gives you a biography of Sean Ruane - the children are really enjoying rehearsing with him for the concerts and the programme for each night is slightly different according to the music that the school children want to sing.
Sean also sings about 9 or 10 pieces by himself during the concert as well as singing with the children and some schools doing a piece on their own.
