Two new deacons

Congratulations to Nathan Horne and Frank Mulgrew, who were ordained as deacons on Saturday. They were among eleven seminarians at Oscott College who were making permanent promises of celibacy and obedience during a Mass of Ordination.

The Mass, celebrated by His Grace Archbishop Bernard Longley of Birmingham, along with about 40 concelebrating priests, took place in the chapel of St Mary's College.

During the Mass, which was celebrated in a packed church, Archbishop Longley spoke of the great gift of the diaconate as a calling from God. The schola cantorum of the College led the singing, which included a harmonised setting of Blessed Charles de Foucauld's prayer of abandonment to God the Father.

Members of both Frankie's and Nathan's families were present to witness the joyful moment when the new deacons, having donned stoles and dalmatics, embarked on the next stage of their lives, in total dedication to the service of mankind through the ministry of preaching and assisting in the celebration of the sacraments.
