Fr James Creaton RIP

It is with great sadness that we learned of the death of Fr James Creaton who died peacefully on Wednesday 27th December  2017.

Fr Creaton was in his eighty fifth year, the sixtieth year of his Sacred Priesthood.  May he rest in peace.

James was born on 11th March 1933 and was baptised on 14th March 1933 at St Nathy’s Cathedral, Ballaghaderreen Co. Roscommon. He was educated at St Nathy’s College in Ballaghaderreen.

James was accepted as an Ecclesiastical student for the Diocese of Salford in August 1952 and attended All Hallows College, Dublin. Fr James Creaton was ordained to the Sacred Priesthood at All Hallows College on 22nd June 1958.

Fr Creaton served the Diocese of Salford in the following appointments:

1958-1965:   St. Joseph, Longsight                                                 Assistant Priest

1965-1974:   St. Anne, Blackburn                                                   Assistant Priest

1974-1977:   Sacred Heart, Colne:                                                             Assistant Priest

1977-1978:   Our Lady of Perpetual Succour, Blackburn                         Administrator

1978-1985:   Our Lady of Perpetual Succour, Blackburn             Parish Priest

1985-2005:   St. Peter Middleton                                                    Parish Priest

In 2005 Fr Creaton retired, taking up residence in Ballaghaderreen. He moved to Oakwood Nursing Home in 2016.

Fr Creaton’s funeral took place on Friday 29th December at St. Baoithin’s church in Fairymount. The Requiem Mass was celebrated by the Bishop of Galway and the Diocese of Salford was represented by Fr Kieren Mullarkey, Parish Priest of St Peter’s Middleton.
