Home Mission Sunday

What is Home Mission Sunday?

Home Mission Sunday provides us with the opportunity to focus on spreading the Gospel in our local areas. At the same time, the second collection for this Sunday supports the work of the Home Mission Office.

Contributing to this collection is one way to play your part in our vision to help the local Church make the Joy of the Gospel a reality across England and Wales.

From the donations made for Home Mission Sunday in 2017 we were able to provide training and support to diocesan evangelisation personnel, put on events that inspire people to share their faith and encourage the faithful to pray for evangelisation – particularly from the Ascension to Pentecost.

The theme for this year come from this week’s Gospel ‘who do you say I am?’

Talking Jesus Research

In this research it was identified that one in five Non-Christians were open to a conversation about Jesus. Whether there’s an established evangelisation team in your parish or something you have been thinking about establishing, inviting people to explore this booklet will inform and inspire a sense of mission.

The group could take a section at a time over four sessions. Reading the section before meeting, then praying and discussing what they have read and exploring ideas of how they might talk about Jesus in the parish or with people the know and care about.

Hope in the Future

In our own Diocese – Hope in the Future is an invitation to every parish in the Diocese to recognise and develop their missionary identity and their call to evangelise. So many members of family, friends and parish communities don’t even know the basic facts about the Gospel. Our first job is to tell them about the love of God and the saving work of Jesus’ life, death and resurrection and what it means for us personally. A summary can be found here
