Job Alert! Director of Music and Music Advisor

Wednesday 14th November 2018

We are looking for one or two candidates of outstanding abilities for two specific posts to support liturgical music in the Diocese.

The first is as the Director of Music (20 hours per week) for the Cathedral Church of St John the Evangelist, Salford and the second as the Diocesan Music Advisor (15 hours per week) across the Diocese.

The two posts are initially proposed as separate roles but the Trustees retain the option to combine the posts into a single appointment, if a suitable candidate is found.  The detail of these arrangements will be discussed and negotiated during the recruitment process with suitable candidates.

The Cathedral Director of Music will play a key role in bringing the liturgical life of the Cathedral to fulfilment.  They will be responsible for providing music at Diocesan and Cathedral Parish Liturgies, as well as, by arrangement, for services by users external to the Cathedral.  They will lead, co-ordinate and develop the Cathedral Choir in rehearsing and conducting them during the celebration of Mass and other liturgies.

The Diocesan Music Advisor will play a pivotal role in widening participation and partnership across the diocese to support and develop the liturgical life of parishes.  They will advise and support parish clergy and those already engaged in music ministry in the Diocese, developing a programme of ongoing training and formation for parish musicians.  They will also assist in the co-ordination and delivery of certain liturgical celebrations outside the Cathedral.

Informal enquiries about either post may be directed to –
