Pilgrimage to Walsingham |
Tuesday, 01 June 2010
Eleven coaches of people from the various regions of the Diocese arrived in Walsingham for the annual day pilgrimage on Saturday 1st May 2010. The pilgrims, over 550 in total, young and old, families and friends, and parish groups, assembled in 'Friday Market' to join up with the contingent of young people from the Diocese who, following the successful trial of last year, had arrived on the previous evening for a weekend of pilgrimage organised by the Office for Youth Ministry.
The Right Reverend Terence Brain, leader of this annual pilgrimage, initiated proceedings with the crowning of the statue of Our Lady of Walsingham prior to the walk in prayer and procession to the Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham.
Time was available for private prayer and reflection while priests of the diocese made themselves available to administer the Sacrament of Reconciliation, on request. The day completed with Mass celebrated by the Bishop and his final blessing concluded this spiritual and uplifting day.
Next year's day pilgrimage is on Saturday 7th May 2011.
