Eighteen-year-old Chantel Birtwistle of Our Lady’s RC School, Royton recently won “Best Student” prize at an award evening held at Rochdale’s Norton Grange Hotel.
In addition to the £100 book token prize, Chantel, who lives in Firwood Park, Chadderton, was first to receive the new award, a mounted miniature sword, which will bear her name as award winner.
A surprised Chantel said “I’m shocked and really pleased. I knew that I had worked hard and put in the effort, but then so had the rest of the class. I’m really pleased to have won the award and the prize.” Chantel plans to go to University in Bolton to study Fine Arts.
The Public Services Department is a partnership of the school, Army Cadets and CVQO, an educational charity. The evening, attended by teachers, cadet instructors, students and supporters, was jointly organised by Greater Manchester Army Cadet Force (ACF) and Our Lady’s School Public Services Department and included Beating Retreat by the Pipes and Drums Band of Greater Manchester’s Army Cadet Band.
