Communicating the Gospel |
“Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience.” So says St Peter, in encouraging members of the early Church in their mission to spread the Gospel.
The task is a delicate one, but the Church needs a voice more than ever, particularly in the modern media. Pope Benedict XVI says: “The increased availability of the new technologies demands greater responsibility on the part of those called to proclaim the Word ... this development likewise represents a great opportunity for believers. No door can or should be closed to those who, in the name of the risen Christ, are committed to drawing near to others” (Message for the 44th World Communications Day, 2010).
In other words, the task is one of evangelisation. Methods may change, but the message – the proclamation of the Risen Christ as Saviour – remains the same.
