Fr O’Sullivan has been diocesan safeguarding co-ordinator since 2001, and has extensive training in the field. We give his main qualifications here:
1995 – 1999: chaplain at HMP Wymott, tutor HMP Sex Offender Treatment Programme
1999 – 2001: Boston USA, Masters in Counselling Psychology
2001 – present: Safeguarding Co-ordinator, Diocese of Salford
2010: Post-Graduate Certificate in Behavioural Forensic Psychology, Member of CEOP Academy
2008 – present – Doctorate in Counselling at University of Manchester researching the following thesis: The Sexual Abuse of Children by some Roman Catholic Priests. What is the impact on other Catholic Priests’ Ministry with Children?

- Member of Anglophone Conference, Vatican City
- Chair of the Catholic Safeguarding Advisory Service Working Party for developing a national training programme for priests
