Thursday 16th September - Edinburgh and Glasgow

The Queen will receive Pope Benedict on his arrival. The Pope will meet members of the royal family and other dignitaries at Holyrood House in Edinburgh. The Pope will preside at an outdoor Mass before departing for England.

Friday 17th September - London

On the second day, Pope Benedict will visit St Mary's University College, Twickenham. Here, there will be three main features: There will be a moment of prayer with representatives of religious congregations - particularly those who have a charism for education and a history of education. The Holy Father will then meet about 3,000 young people - schoolchildren, students - to celebrate Catholic education. From there he will meet religious leaders and people of faith, for a discussion about faith and culture. Finally, the Vicar of Christ will meet the Archbishop of Canterbury for an address with the bishops of England and Wales and various members of the Anglican ecclesial communion. Then, at Westminster Hall, the Holy Father will give an address to various representatives of British society. The Pope will then celebrate Vespers at Westminster Abbey with the Archbishop of Westminster, the Archbishop of Canterbury and other religious leaders.

Saturday 18th September - London

Pope Benedict will celebrate Mass in Westminster Cathedral where he will also greet the people of Wales. Later in the day the Pope will visit a home for the elderly. This will provide him with the chance to reach out to those who cannot meet him. In the evening there will be an open-air Vigil of prayer in Hyde Park.

Sunday 19th September - West Midlands

The final day of the visit is focused very much on the beatification of John Henry Cardinal Newman, and the Pope will celebrate that beatification at Cofton Park in Birmingham. He will conclude the day by meeting with the bishops of England, Scotland and Wales in Oscott College before returning to Rome from Birmingham Airport.
