Grateful to God!

I never thought that my dream to see the Pope would ever be fulfilled. I am really thankful to God for granting my wish.

We started our journey at 1:30am with a prayer at Salford Cathedral. All of us were so excited and happy.

During the journey we sang songs together, which enriched our souls. After 3 in the morning the driver turned off the lights to let us sleep. But I couldn’t sleep properly in anticipation of seeing the Pope.

We reached London at about 7.20am. After a long coach journey we were very tired and confused about the thought of what is going to be happening throughout the day. It was a cold morning. After the warm breakfast at McDonald’s we met other youngsters from different part of diocese. We waved at each other, our faith bringing us closer.  I saw thousands of youths from different dioceses from all over Great Britain. They were all excited and happy same like me.

At about 10am the Mass started in Westminster Cathedral. I saw the GREAT HOLY FATHER, THE LEADER OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH, through the big screen which played the Holy Mass in front of us. We all shouted loudly, saying, “PAPA! WE LOVE YOU". When Mass was over, the Holy Father came out of the Cathedral and greeted us. It was a blessed moment in my life. I couldn’t believe that the Holy Father was standing in front of me just yards away. I saw his happy and smiling face. It made me cry and very proud of being a CATHOLIC.

Later we walked to Hyde Park. Our journey was escorted by many types of police, horses, cars. It was a different experience. We sat on the grass and had our lunch. We saw Buckingham Palace. I took some pictures on my mobile phone to keep the memories of this wonderful experience alive.

Christine, our group leader, called out our names and led us to a big queue. It was the big queue of thousands of people who came to attend the vigil of prayer in Hyde Park. The security men checked our ID and led us in front of the big stage. I saw the huge big stage filled with lots of choir groups, where they played songs and hymns beautifully. I enjoyed singing hymns with the rest of the crowd.

As we saw our own faces on the big screen, we waved and cheered together.  I could never forget that day in my life: whenever I remember that day it makes me so happy, and I never forget the banner which said WE LOVE YOU PAPA MORE THAN BEANS ON TOAST. Yes we all love you PAPA! You are the leader of this holy Catholic army. I love being a Catholic and I am proud to grow myself in the Catholic faith.

I am really thankful to all the people who encouraged me especially to Fr Joseph Sweeny (my parish priest) who gave me this opportunity to represent my parish in London for the papal visit.
