A study day on
Caritas in Veritate


Based on Pope Benedict XVI's Encyclical Letter

To be held on 24th February 2010 (10.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m.)

At the Salford Cathedral Centre, 3 Ford Street, Salford M3 6DP

Purpose: The purpose of the day is to explore in some depth the Pope's recent significant encyclical on human development, the economy and the environment. The encyclical is an important development in Catholic social teaching and makes an important contribution to the public debate in these areas and in others. In addition to studying the encyclical, the purpose will also be to explore the implications of the encyclical for the work of CSAN and its associated agencies. Furthermore, the development of the whole person in the context of challenges that have arisen with globalisation will be discussed from different perspectives.

Speakers:

Mgr Andrew Faley, Assistant General Secretary of the Bishops' Conference of England and Wales will facilitate the study day........

The speakers include:-

  • Rev Dr James Hanvey, Theological Consultant to the Bishops' Conference and member of the academic staff at Heythrop College
  • Father Stephen Wang, Dean of Studies at Allen Hall
  • Mike Adam, councillor
  • Mary Colwell, TV Radio Producer and Consultant on Faith and the Environment
Each session will be followed by an opportunity for questions and feedback.

The number of participants is limited to 80 to facilitate maximum participation in discussions.

Bookings will be accepted on a first come first serve basis. It is intended that participants will represent a cross section of Catholic agencies, the Catholic education sector, dioceses, religious orders, university chaplains and others.

Cost: The cost for participants is £30 and includes coffee and tea during the day as well as lunch.
