The
First Sunday of Advent each year sees the beginning
of a new Liturgical Year. Each liturgical year has one of
the synoptic Gospels as the main focus. For the new liturgical
year beginning on the first Sunday of Advent this year,
the Gospel we will hear the most from is that of St Luke.
In order to help us all to prepare for listening to the
Gospel readings from St Luke at Mass especially during Lent
and Easter, the Departments for Evangelisation and Formation
have invited Fr Denis McBride to come back to our diocese
to present an evening reflecting on the Passion and Resurrection
narratives in St Lukes Gospel.
Our speaker, Fr Denis McBride, is a Redemptorist Priest
from Scotland. He was, until recently, the Director of Courses
at Hawkstone Hall, Shropshire, (an International Redemptorist
Study Centre). He is currently the Director of Redemptorist
Publications at Chawton in Hampshire.
In his post-graduate studies, he studied under the great
scripture scholar Raymond Brown, and for many years Fr Denis
has shared his insights and enthusiasm for the scriptures
through lectures and retreats around the world.
Fr Denis has written many books including: The Gospel of
Luke, Jesus and the Gospels, and The parables of Jesus.
We are delighted to be welcome him back to the Diocese
on 23rd February.3
Bookstall:
There will be a Bookstall at the talk, with books relevant
to the work of the Departments, and Fr McBrides books
on the Scriptures will also be available.
