We are proud to announce that Dr Emanuela Marinella, an
expert on the Turin Shroud, will give a presentation on
the Shroud. Dr Marinella holds doctorates in both Natural
and Geological Sciences, and has been involved in the study
of the Shroud for over thirty years. She will discuss the
research which has been carried out on the shroud. A full
size replica of the Shroud will also be available for viewing.
The
Turin Shroud is a linen cloth which bears the image of a
man who has been crucified.
The Shroud has been the subject of over one thousand scientific
investigations and more than 32,000 photos have been taken
of it. Although the Church has not declared it to be the
burial shroud of Jesus Christ, various Popes have spent
time in personal prayer before the Shroud, notably John
Paul II. Pope Benedict XVI plans to visit Turin, and the
Shroud, later this year.
Why
is this a good time to learn about the Turin Shroud?
The Shroud has been exposed for public viewing only four
times since 1800, however it will be exposed this year from
10th April to 23rd May. Furthermore, Ash Wednesday falls
this year on the 17th February and therefore this is an
excellent opportunity to inspire reflection on the Passion
of the Lord Jesus.
