Safeguarding
Safeguarding in the diocese
The Diocese of Salford has been dedicated to an ongoing programme of training for its priests since January 2002 in raising awareness about safeguarding issues, in prioritising the concerns of victims, and in promoting a healthy and confident ministry with children. There are also 240 parish representatives in an ongoing programme of safeguarding training. The diocese is in constant contact with the statutory authorities which ensures that if a disclosure is made, procedures are in place that allow for transparent practices.
The safeguarding policies and procedures of the diocese of Salford are themselves part of a wider set of procedures carried out in all 22 Catholic dioceses of England and Wales.
While the diocese would never be complacent about the success of its procedures regarding the protection of children and vulnerable adults, nevertheless since the September 2001 publication of the Nolan Report, it is confident that diocesan safeguarding policies and procedures implemented since that time are robust. The priority in those policies and procedures given to the welfare of children and vulnerable adults is of the highest importance.
It is always possible to speak to a member of the Safeguarding Commission in total confidence.
