Roles for parish ministry |
Below is a list of possible roles in parish ministry that may well come under some degree of responsibiltiy from the safeguarding rep. It is not an exhaustive list.

Altar Server – The altar server has specific liturgical functions to carry out as specified by the rubrics of the Roman Catholic Church.
Bereavement Group – The group offers help, both spiritual and temporal, to those who have been bereaved. This may be immediately following the death of a loved one or in the weeks and months afterwards.
Caretaker – The caretaker is responsible for the general maintenance and upkeep of parish premises. He/she may also be responsible for the opening up and shutting of premises for functions.
Catechist – Prepares both adults and children for the reception of the sacraments. Offers education for those people who have not had access to Roman Catholic teaching.
Children's Liturgy – To provide an adapted Liturgy of the Word for children during Mass on Sundays
Choir Leader – Working with parish clergy the choir leader selects the appropriate music and has a responsibility for selecting and training choir members of all ages.
Driver – Usually as part of a team, a driver will take people to and from Church functions.
Fundraising – This broadbrush title covers those people who have the responsibility for organizing and running fund raising events. Volunteers work under the guidance of the fundraising organizer.
Hospital Parish Visitor – Usually as part of a team the hospital visitor calls on patients who have notified the parish of their hospitalization. Visits are also made to members of the parish who often live alone with little or no contact with the outside world. This ministry works alongside that of the Extraordinary Minister of Communion.
Extraordinary Minister of Holy Comunioin – The Extraordinary Minister is commissioned to take Holy Communion to the sick and the housebound. When requested by the Parish Priest he/she may be called upon to carry out other liturgical functions.
Masteer of Ceremonies – The MC works with the parish clergy and is responsible for directing clergy and altar staff at Liturgies of all forms.

This is not an exhaustive list of roles that may be governed by other bodies under the umbrella of the Church.
These organizations may have their own recruitment processes but require a CRB Disclosure which is often obtained through the Catholic Safeguarding Advisory Services as the umbrella body.
