We pray together

If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.
(Matthew 21,21)

My hand in your hand. When hands are joined together, it is a sign of a personal bond, a closeness. When we shake someone’s hand and say “goodbye”, we are telling them that we are still going to think about each other. During the marriage ceremony, the bride and groom join hands when they make their covenant with each other and speak their vows.

When we pray, God stretches out his hand to us. He wants to share the deepest and closest possible union with us. Our home is the place where we can encounter him in prayer. We walk hand-in-hand with Our Lord.

When we pray for someone as a family, it is as if we put a huge magnifying glass over them that concentrates the love and grace of God and sets their hearts on fire for Jesus. Prayer is a great power. It strengthens our unity as a family and it helps us share our spiritual life, just as much as we share our interests, and our experiences.

We join our hands in prayer and the good Lord gently puts his warm hands around ours and holds us.

What you can do as a family

Couples can pray together. Parents can pray for their children. Every family can come together and celebrate the fact that their home is a holy place through prayer. Family prayers should be short and easy. Before going to bed at night is a beautiful time to pray together and “waste some time” with God. We can also include in our prayers people who are sick, or family members who are going through a hard time.
