A memorial for Jude

Tuesday 10th July 2018

Earlier this year the whole school community at English Martyrs Primary in Urmston were devastated by the loss of pupil Jude Anderton who had been fighting Bone Cancer.

Since Jude’s passing thousands of pounds have been raised for the Bone Cancer Research Trust by his family, friends and community. The school also wanted to provide a permanent memorial for Jude and this week work began on a new prayer garden in his memory.

On Monday 9th July volunteers from the Bank of New York Melon and the school were joined by Jude’s parent’s Helen and Paul to lay the groundwork for the new garden.

Headteacher Carole Partington said: “We wanted to build a place where all the children can go, think of Jude and also have an opportunity to be peaceful and reflect.”

As well as the manpower donated by the volunteers, donations of material were received from Travis Perkins, B&Q and TP Howarth.

Work on the garden will continue after the summer holidays with a blessing in the autumn.

Jude’s parents, Helen and Paul were thankful for all those who have supported their fundraising and this opportunity to build a memorial to Jude.

12 year old Jude continued to fund-raise for research into bone cancer right up to the day he died. As part of his memory the family are asking people to #bemorelikejude.
