Can you change a young person’s life in 2020?

Sunday 29th December 2019

Over the Christmas period, many of us will have welcomed our family, friends and neighbours into our homes.  We’ll have experienced special moments while feeling safe, warm and content, surrounded by those we love.

But more than 75,000 looked-after children across England may not have shared this experience.

Today, as we celebrate the feast day of the Holy Family, let us all consider whether we or people we know may be able to open our doors to change a child’s life.

The North West region needs the highest amount of foster carers – over 1,190 – to meet demand.

On a national scale, the numbers of children and young people coming into the care system is rising year on year, so there is an urgent need to recruit families. Despite some common myths your age, race, sexual orientation, religion, marital or employment status, will not affect your ability to become a foster carer. The only requirements are that you have a spare bedroom and the availability and want to provide a home for the most vulnerable children and young people.

Caritas Salford’s fostering service is recruiting people to become foster carers and inviting all people from across our diocese to consider fostering or to start a conversation with those around them about the topic.

Caritas Fostering are also offering to hold talks in parishes across the diocese and have posters which can be put up on parish notice boards.  There are 111 parishes in our diocese – imagine the change that could be made if a someone from each parish become a foster family.

Caritas Fostering is a well established, not for profit, fostering agency which is part of a larger social welfare charity, Caritas Diocese of Salford. Formerly known as Catholic Childrens Rescue Society, Caritas Fostering have been providing foster placements across the North West since 1950.
