Fr Michael Fraher RIP

Today we share the sad news that Fr Michael Fraher died peacefully yesterday afternoon. Please remember him in your prayers. May he rest in peace.

Michael was born on 20th December 1934 and was baptised on 22nd December 1934 at the Parish Church of Galbally and Aherlow, Co. Limerick. He was educated at Christian Brothers High School, Thurles and the Pallotine College, Thurles.

Michael was accepted as an Ecclesiastical student for the Diocese of Salford in December 1953 and attended St John’s College, Waterford. Fr Michael Fraher was ordained to the Sacred Priesthood at St John’s College, Waterford on 14th June 1959.

Fr Fraher served the Diocese of Salford in the following appointments:

July 1959:     St Mary’s, Swinton                                                    Supply Priest

1959-1966:   St Ann’s, Blackburn                                                   Assistant Priest

1966-1977:   St. Mary Magdalene’s, Burnley                                 Assistant Priest

Also Chaplain to St Theodore and St Hilda’s Schools

1977-2008:   St. Mary Magdalene’s, Burnley                                 Parish Priest

In 2008 Fr Fraher retired, taking up residence in McAuley Mount Care Home.

Fr Fraher’s body will be received into St. Mary Magdalene, Burnley for concelebrated Mass at 7.00pm on Thursday 4th January. Bishop John will celebrate the Requiem Mass at St. Mary Magdalene, Burnley on Friday 5th January at 1.00pm followed by burial at Burnley Cemetery.
