Fr Vincent Cavey RIP

We are sorry to share the sad news that Fr Vincent Cavey died peacefully on 2nd April at Little Sisters of the Poor Care Home in Longsight.

Fr Cavey was in his ninety second year, the sixty seventh year of his Sacred Priesthood.  May he rest in peace.

Vincent was born on 20th July 1929 in Chadderton, Oldham and was baptised at Corpus Christi, Hollinwood on 4th August 1929. He attended Corpus Christi School, Hollinwood.

Vincent was accepted as an Ecclesiastical student for the Diocese of Salford in July 1943 and entered St. Bede’s College as a Day Boy. He became a Boarder at St. Bede’s in September 1944 and transferred to St. Cuthbert’s College, Ushaw in September 1948.

Fr Vincent Cavey was ordained to the Priesthood at Corpus Christi, Hollinwood on 18th July 1954.

Fr Cavey served the Diocese of Salford in the following appointments:

1954-1954:     All Souls, Weaste                    Assistant Priest

1954-1965:     St. Alban’s, Blackburn            Assistant Priest

1965-2010:     St. Mary’s, Denton                  Assistant Priest

1970-2010:     St. Mary’s, Denton                  Parish Priest

1979-1987:     Dean of St. Augustine’s Deanery

1987-1993:     Appointed Dean of newly erected St Stephen’s Deanery, Tameside

Fr Vincent retired in 2010 and moved to Little Sisters of the Poor Care Home in Longsight where he served as chaplain.

The funeral will take place on 21st April at St Mary’s, Denton followed by interment at St Joseph’s Cemetery and in line with current guidance, restrictions on numbers apply.
