Mission Possible

Tuesday 29th May 2018

‘Mission Possible’ began in 2017; was formed to support the missionary work of the Salesian Sisters.  Their work changes countless lives of families living in countries like Kenya and Rwanda.

Mrs Kathleen  Mckeating  (Head teacher of St. John the Baptist R.C school, Padiham), and her new team: Anne Marie Nield (Head teacher Holy Saviours R C Primary, Nelson, Clare Campbell (Head teacher), Michelle De Carteret (Deputy head teacher), Aurore Pasquier (Key stage 3 teacher);  two High Level Teaching Assistants: Justine Taylor and Bernadette Davies:( St. Augustine of Canterbury R C Primary, Burnley), will be returning to Kenya this week during May half term.

Last year the team raised an amazing £6582. The money raised at the Maria Romero children’s home in Nairobi, Kenya went towards a range of educational resources, including tables and chairs for the classroom. The money also providen an opportunity to fund some new experiences for the children by buying an inflatable swimming pool!

This year the visit will be focusing on developing teaching, improving resources and providing new experiences for children. Each member of the team is planning to deliver 20 demonstration lessons. The team will be following up on last years trip by checking on the children’s progress, where educational plans were put into place and setting new targets for the children. One of the new members of the team will be offering Art Therapy as last year the team were shocked to find that the children didn’t know what paint was!

The team are aiming to spend two days with the girls at a children’s home and practice bead craft work and show them how to bake.

As well as the educational resources the team are providing, they will also be taking basic clothing provision for the children and also be supplying balloons and sweets.
