Recent Clergy Appointments

Friday 28th September 2018

Over the last few weeks there have been some clergy moves in parishes as the bishops new appointments of parish priests take place. These are detailed below.

Bishop John thanked all the priests who have accepted moves and amalgamations. He said “Change can be demanding and challenging but I can only think that the Lord is calling us to action and realistic planning for the future.

We must ensure that members of parish communities take increasing responsibility for administration and pastoral ministry, allowing priests to do what they are ordained to do. This will be the essential factor in developing our parishes as “mission parishes” and recognising that we are all “missionary disciples”.

In addition to the reappointment of some clergy, Fr Michael Waters, Fr Ray McKee, Fr John Williams, Fr Joe Sweeney and Fr Tom Connolly have recently retired. Fr Des O’Driscoll and Fr John Sullivan have also announced their retirement and will retire in the autumn. We give our thanks for their many years of service to the diocese and assure them of our continued prayers as they settle into retirement.
